5月19日は総理官邸で内閣総理大臣を表敬。この日はさくら振興議員連盟の
亀岡事務局長が同行して下さり心強い限り。安倍総理は核サミットで
ワシントンから帰られたところで、現地はちょうどさくらの咲きはじめで
日米の友情の象徴をとても力強く感じたと話されました。
レイチェルさんは「日本の人々はとても暖かく、本当に日本が大好きになりました。」と
日本語で話していました。

May 19, we had a courtesy visit to the Prime Minister Abe. Mr. Kameoka,
one of the members of the parliamentary association for Sakura, accompanied us.
Since the Prime Minister Abe had just come back from DC,
he told us that he had felt the great relationship between Japan and America
as cherry blossoms in DC had started to bloom. Ms. Bohn told him that
she found Japanese people very warm-hearted and she came to like them in Japanese!

行事が終わって、レイチェルさんのたっての希望で猫カフェに行ってみました。
お店の中には様々な種類の猫達が好き好きに寝転んだり歩き回ったり。
ねこじゃらしを振り回すとじゃれに来てくれます。レイチェルサンは
どうやら猫とも友好を深めたようです。

At the end of the day, we took Ms. Bohn and Ms. Downs to “Neko-café”.
Many cute cats were at that café, Ms. Bohn got so excited.
I think she even promoted the friendship with cats in japan.

3時からは秋篠宮邸で紀子妃殿下に拝謁いたしました。

お庭にはマーラという珍獣とカピバラの親子がのんびりと草を食んでいて、
妃殿下がそばまでご案内くださいました。お庭の木の種類を説明して下さったり、
枝垂れ桜がついこの間まできれいに咲いていたことなどを英語でお話くださいました。

応接のお礼を申し上げると反対に「連れて来てくれてありがとう」と言われて
恐縮してしまいました。エレガントな姿にレイチェルさんも増田さんもとても感激していました。

Sometime after the reception, we had a distinction of being presented to Princess Kiko.
She took us to her beautiful garden and explained several things about it in English.
Both Ms. Bohn and Ms. Masuda were deeply moved by the Princess.

5月18日は日本さくらの会会長大島理森衆議院議長を表敬訪問。
現在大学生のレイチェルさんも日本さくらの女王の増田さんと同じく
歯科医を目指していることを聞いて会長は世界の歯科医療のために
尽くしてくださいと励ましてくださいました。

引き続き衆議院議長公邸の広間で会長主催の歓迎会が日本さくらの会会員と
さくら振興議員連盟の先生方の参加でにぎやかに開催されました。
藤崎元駐米大使の乾杯でシャンパンの泡がはじけ、会場の皆様との交流も
にぎやかにはじけていました。

緑の清清しいお庭での全員揃っての記念撮影は本当に気持ちの良いものでした。


May 18, Cherry Blossoms Queens made a courtesy visit to
the Japan Sakura foundation’s chairman, Mr. Oshima.
Mr. Oshima presides over House of Representatives.
Since both of the Queens, Ms. Bohn and Ms. Masuda, are studying
dentistry purely by chance, Mr. Oshima cheered them on their dedication as dentists.

Soon after the visit, Mr. Oshima hosted a welcome party
for Ms. Bohn at his official residence of the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Mr. Fujisaki, a former ambassador to the US, made a toast
and we all had a wonderful time together.

この日最後の行事は自民党清和政策研究会のパーティーにお招きを受け高輪プリンスホテルへ。
細田会長に花束を差し上げました。レイチェルさんは会長に何か一言と促され、
日本語で自己紹介をして「日本に来れてうれしいです。日本が大好きです。」と話しました。
後で会場に5千人の人がいたことを聞くと顔を真っ赤にして興奮していました。

The last event of the day was a party of the LDP’s political studies association
at Takanawa Prince Hotel in Tokyo. The Cherry Blossoms Queens handed bouquets
to Mr. Hosoda, the Chairman of party. Ms. Bohn even gave a short speech
in Japanese in front of 5000 people. That was Mr.Hosoda’s idea!
