東京最後の夜、日本さくらの会の役員と女王委員会のメンバーで送別会をしました。
とてもハードなスケジュールの中、親善大使として勤めてくれましたが、
彼女に出会った人はみんなレイチェルさんの笑顔が忘れられないことでしょう。
最後は涙なしでは別れられなくなっていました。本当に1週間お疲れ様でした。
Their last day of Tokyo, we organized a farewell dinner.
Through the entire events, Ms. Bohn worked very hard
as the Cherry Blossoms Queen. We all will never forget her sweet smile.
Trust me, that week turned out to be a great time.

忙しい公式行事から開放され、白いドレスから着替えて原宿で普通の若者に変身。
クレープを食べたり、プリクラを撮ったり。この頃にはかなりレイチェルさんの
日本語の単語も増えて、場面場面で当意即妙に使って周りの人たちを喜ばせていました。
After all of the official events, we changed to casual wears and visited Harajuku.
We had crepes and took Purikura. By the time, Ms. Bohn gained
so many vocabularies of Japanese she was able to communicate
at some points with us in Japanese.

続いて、日本さくらの会を長く支援してくださっている（株）イカリ消毒黒澤敬社長が
この度旭日小綬章(きょくじつしょうじゅしょう)を叙勲されたので
お祝いを申し上げに伺いました。長年の公共衛生に努力された実績を
レイチェルさんもたたえていました。
Next, we visited to congratulate Mr. Kurosawa,
the president of Ikari Shodoku CO.,Ltd, on his conferment.
He was conferred to Kyokujitusyoujyusyou from His Majesty the Emperor.

5月20日は東京都知事を表敬訪問しました。全米さくら祭グランドボウルにおいて
さくらの女王を選ぶ際にホイールを回したのが枡添都知事で、ウイスコンシン州に
矢が止まり、今回ウイスコンシン州代表のレイチェルさんが女王に選ばれたのですから、
女王を誕生させたのが都知事と言う訳です。
都知事は表敬した4人の名前を覚えてくださっており、レイチェルさんも
シャペロンのテレッサさんも再会を喜んでいました。
残念ながらその後都知事は交代してしまったのですが…
On May 20, we had a courtesy visit to Mr. Masuzoe, the governor of Tokyo.
He spun the wheel at the grand ball of the national cherry blossoms festival
and that’s how Ms. Bohn became the Queen.
The governor remembered us all and Ms. Bohn and Ms. Downs
were very happy to see him.

この日最後の公式行事は国土交通大臣表敬訪問。生真面目そうな大臣は
聞くところによると学者さんだったそう。
国土緑化とさくらは切っても切れない関係。日本から送ったポトマックの
さくらが見事に育っていることに緑化保全の観点から大変関心をお持ちのようでした。
At the end of the day, we visited Mr. Ishii, Minister of Land, Infrastructure,
Transport and Tourism. Since cherry blossoms strongly related to this ministry,
the Minister seemed to have a great interest in DC’s well grown
cherry blossoms gifted from Japan.

続いて山崎参議院議長を表敬しました。いつも大変にこやかに私達をお迎えくださり、
議長公邸をご案内くださいます。この日も抜けるような青空の下つつじが満開で、
お庭での写真もとても美しく撮れました。ここでもレイチェルさんの日本語の挨拶を
とても喜んで聞いて下さいました。
Next to the Prime Minister Abe, we visited Mr. Yamazaki, the President of
House of Councilors in Nagatacho. He warmly welcomed and showed us
around his residence as usual. The day was such a beautiful day
with full blown azaleas. We took pictures in front of them.
Ms. Bohn greeted him in Japanese and he was glad to hear that.

5月19日は総理官邸で内閣総理大臣を表敬。この日はさくら振興議員連盟の
亀岡事務局長が同行して下さり心強い限り。安倍総理は核サミットで
ワシントンから帰られたところで、現地はちょうどさくらの咲きはじめで
日米の友情の象徴をとても力強く感じたと話されました。
レイチェルさんは「日本の人々はとても暖かく、本当に日本が大好きになりました。」と
日本語で話していました。
May 19, we had a courtesy visit to the Prime Minister Abe. Mr. Kameoka,
one of the members of the parliamentary association for Sakura, accompanied us.
Since the Prime Minister Abe had just come back from DC,
he told us that he had felt the great relationship between Japan and America
as cherry blossoms in DC had started to bloom. Ms. Bohn told him that
she found Japanese people very warm-hearted and she came to like them in Japanese!

行事が終わって、レイチェルさんのたっての希望で猫カフェに行ってみました。
お店の中には様々な種類の猫達が好き好きに寝転んだり歩き回ったり。
ねこじゃらしを振り回すとじゃれに来てくれます。レイチェルサンは
どうやら猫とも友好を深めたようです。
At the end of the day, we took Ms. Bohn and Ms. Downs to “Neko-café”.
Many cute cats were at that café, Ms. Bohn got so excited.
I think she even promoted the friendship with cats in japan.

3時からは秋篠宮邸で紀子妃殿下に拝謁いたしました。
お庭にはマーラという珍獣とカピバラの親子がのんびりと草を食んでいて、
妃殿下がそばまでご案内くださいました。お庭の木の種類を説明して下さったり、
枝垂れ桜がついこの間まできれいに咲いていたことなどを英語でお話くださいました。
応接のお礼を申し上げると反対に「連れて来てくれてありがとう」と言われて
恐縮してしまいました。エレガントな姿にレイチェルさんも増田さんもとても感激していました。
Sometime after the reception, we had a distinction of being presented to Princess Kiko.
She took us to her beautiful garden and explained several things about it in English.
Both Ms. Bohn and Ms. Masuda were deeply moved by the Princess.
