こんにちは、第29代日本さくらの女王の油原さくらです。
10月6日に有楽町駅前広場にて、都市緑化キャンペーンが開催されました。
10月は「都市緑化月間」です。都市の豊かなみどりを守り推進していくための
活動として、花鉢の配布が行われました。当日は斉藤鉄夫国土交通大臣も
出席される中、第28代日本さくらの女王の戸川さんと共に参加いたしました。
花鉢を配るときに「この花は何という花なの？」という質問が多く、
一生懸命答えました。お花に関心のある方が多い印象でした。
現在、環境や緑化について多くの方が関心を持つようになっています。
私自身、学園祭実行委員で環境担当として、学園祭中の環境整備や
キャンパスの環境について、同世代の学生と話し合う機会が多くあります。
「都市緑化」と聞くと自分からは遠い話のように感じてしまいますが、
私達の住む場所に関わる重要な問題です。このようなキャンペーンを
通して多くの人に都市緑化について身近に感じていただければと思いました。
また、2027年には国際園芸博覧会が横浜で開催されるそうで、
花や緑への注目はこれから益々高まっていくと感じました。
4年後の博覧会の開催を楽しみにしております。

9日は秋篠宮佳子内親王殿下に拝謁いたしました。
初めはマデリンさんも私も緊張でがちがちでしたが、
佳子様がたくさん話しかけてくださり次第に緊張も
解けていきました。佳子様は英語が大変ご堪能で、
私たちと英語でお話してくださいました。
また日米さくらの女王として私たちがどのような役割を
果たしているのかについても興味を持ってくださり、
日米のさくらを通した友好関係の橋渡しとなっていることを
喜んでくださいました。
他にもマデリンさんの職業に関してや、私自身の大学生活についても
お聞きくださり、時間があっという間に過ぎました。大変緊張しましたが、
貴重な経験が持てたことをとても誇りに思います。
その後、全日空本社を表敬訪問いたしました。
4月の日本さくらの女王訪米、そして今回の全米女王訪日の際も、
全日空には大変お世話になりました。日米さくらの女王が
素晴らしい経験をすることができ、日米のさくらを通した
国際親善を務めることができたのは、全日空の皆様のおかげです。
心から感謝申し上げます。
全日空の皆様には、訪米の際のワシントンでの出来事を報告し、
また全米さくらの女王の今回の訪問のご予定などをお伝えしました。
またテレサさんとマデリンさんは、日本の「サケ」が気に入ったと
お話したところ、ANAの皆様は「飛行機内でも日本のお酒を楽しんでください」と
おっしゃっていてお話も盛り上がりました。お土産にANAオリジナルハンカチを
プレゼントしてくださいました。
全米さくらの女王御一行は、その後静岡と伊勢を訪問され、
無事に帰国されました。4月の訪米の際に選出された、
新全米さくらの女王と一緒に日本で活動することができ、
大変光栄でした。日米女王としての絆もしっかり深めることができました。
今回の活動での貴重な経験や出会いを糧に、女王としての活動も頑張りたいと思います。
全米さくらの女王来日に関しご協力くださった全ての皆様、ありがとうございました。
On June 9th, we paid a courtesy visit to Imperial Princess Kako.
Maddy and I were both nervous at first, but as Princess Kako talked to us a lot,
we gradually eased our nerves. We told Princess Kako the role we play as
Cherry Blossom Queen, and she was pleased to hear that we are bridging
the friendship between Japan and the U.S. through cherry blossoms.
Also, we talked about the field of agriculture where she works, and about my
life in my university. I was very proud to have had this valuable experience.
After that, we visited All Nippon Airways group. ANA provided us with air tickets
for my visit to the United States in April, and for the current US Queen’s visit to Japan.
Thanks for ANA, we could promote international friendship between Japan and
the United States through cherry blossoms. Thank you so much, I appreciate it.
We told the wonderful experience in Washington as Japan Cherry Blossom Queen,
and I once again expressed my gratitude for supporting my visit to the United States.
The United States Queen Maddy and Chaperone Teresa told that they liked SAKE,
then people in ANA told them to enjoy SAKE on the plane as well.
We talked about many other things and had a great time. In the end, they gave us
original ANA handkerchiefs.
The United States Queen then visited Shizuoka and Ise, and went back to Japan safely.
It was very honor to be able to meet the U.S. Queen in Japan and had a wonderful
week with Maddy. We were able to develop the friendship between Unites States
and Japan through cherry blossoms.

6月8日は夕方からマデリンさんや金子プリンセス達と合流し、
SEIKOミュージアムを訪問しました。国産時計の最高峰である
SEIKOの歴史や挑戦、未来についての展示がされているミュージアムで、
興味深いものばかりでした。特に「関東大震災によって被害を受け、
顧客から修理で預かっていた時計約1500個が消失してしまった。
そんな中でも申し出た顧客には、新品の時計で返済した」という話が
印象的で、顧客のことを第一に考えて苦難を乗り越えてきたのだ
ということを知りました。
マデリンさんは時計に大変興味があり、前日の空き時間にも
SEIKOの店舗を訪れ、ボーイフレンドに時計を購入していたそうです。
夜はダンサーによるエンターテインメントショーを楽しみながら、
銀座にて夕食をいただきました。
On June 8th, we visited SEIKO museum. SEIKO is a representative
watch company in Japan. We could know the history of SEIKO.
The particularly impressive story was that SEIKO was damaged
by the Great Kanto Earthquake, and approximately 1,500 watches
that had been entrusted to us by customers for repair were lost.
In spite of this, they sent new watches to customers who requested them.
I learned that they have overcome hardships by prioritizing their customers.
And in the evening, we enjoyed an entertainment show by dancers.

6月7日、マデリンさん、テレサさん、蓮實理事長、佐藤シャペロンと
岸田文雄内閣総理大臣を表敬訪問しました。マデリンさんはバイデン大統領からの
親書と、友情を象徴する記念のコインを総理に手渡しました。
総理は「さくらは日本を象徴する花で、さくらを大切にする文化が日本では
育まれている。外国においてもさくらが親しまれていて、全米さくら祭りが
今年も盛大に開催されたと聞き嬉しく思っている。」と話してくださいました。
表敬訪問後は、官邸でメディアの取材を受け、日米の友好関係を築くことが
できて嬉しいという気持ちを伝えました。
総理表敬後には、さくら振興議員連盟の先生方を表敬し、
先生方に全米さくら祭りに参加したことを報告しました。
また、国会見学へも案内頂きました。日本政治の基礎を
作り上げた功労者の銅像たちや豪華なステンドグラスは圧巻で、
マデリンさんと共に見とれてしまいました。
国会見学の後は、宗偏流家元夫人がお茶席を設けてくださり、
テレサさんと女王のマデリンさんと共に茶道体験をしました。
お二人とも茶道の作法にとても関心があり、抹茶やお菓子を
いただきながら、やすらぎのひとときを過ごしました。
On June 7th, we paid a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
The United States Queen presented the Prime Minister with a personal letter
from President Biden and a commemorative coin symbolizing their friendship.
The Prime Minister said, “Cherry blossom is a flower that symbolizes Japan,
and there is a culture in Japan that values cherry blossoms.”
Also said, “I’m glad to hear that cherry blossoms are popular in foreign
countries as well, and that National Cherry Blossom Festival was held
with great success this year.”
After the courtesy visit, we were interviewed by the media at the Prime
Minister’s Office and expressed his happiness at being able to build
friendly relations between Japan and the United States.
After that, we paid a courtesy visit to the Member of The Sakura Parliamentary
League, and told them that I visited Washington D.C. and we attended
National Cherry Blossom Festival.
Then, we were guided on a tour of the National Diet. The bronze statues of
people who have contributed to the foundations of Japanese politics,
and the magnificent stained glasses were truly impressive.
After the courtesy visit, we had tea ceremony, Sado in Japanese.
Maddy and Teresa were so interested in etiquette of Sado, so tea master
kindly taught us manners for drinking green tea.
I was able to learn about and pass on the tea ceremony, which is
one of Japan’s traditional cultures. I was able to make her feel familiar
with the traditional Japanese culture of tea ceremony through this experience.

6月6日は、浅草観光を一緒に楽しみました。
仲見世通りを歩き、マデリンさんは浅草の絵が描かれたストラップや
柴犬のぬいぐるみなどを購入されていました。
お昼は、お好み焼き屋へ行きました。マデリンさんはお好み焼きを
食べるのが初めてだったそうで、スタッフが上手にお好み焼きを
ひっくり返すのを見て驚いていました。
それから皆で浅草寺へ。浅草寺の境内で体にお線香の煙を浴びている
人が多くいますが、それを見てとても不思議そうにしていました。
常香炉の説明をするのは難しかったですが、「煙を浴びると
ご利益がある」ということを伝えました。
仁王堂や五重塔、また常香炉などは、今まではお寺にある当たり前のものとして
通りすぎていましたが、大切な日本文化の一つです。私自身が日本文化について
もっと学び、伝えられるようになりたいと思いました。
参拝後は人力車に乗りました。実は私自身も初めての人力車で
マデリンさんと共にワクワクしながら車に乗り込みました。
スカイツリーのよく見える場所やアサヒビール本社、二天門などを
ガイドしていただきました。人力車を押す車夫の方は英語がとても達者で、
スカイツリーや浅草寺の難しい説明も英語でしてくださり、
マデリンさんも大満足の様子でした。
私は授業のためご一緒できませんでしたが、その後お二人は合羽橋にて
サンプル食品作りの体験をなさったそうです。日本独特の蝋の食品
サンプル作りにとても興味を示され、本物そっくりの天ぷらに
とても感激しておられたようです。
On June 6th, we went to Asakusa.
Maddy bought a stuffed Shiba dog there. It was so cute.
We ate Okonomiyaki. Maddy have never eaten it.
She was surprised when turning it over. It was so delicious.
After that, we went Sensoji Temple. There was Jokoro,
a large incense burner, and cleanse our body with smoke.
This is also an important part of Japanese culture.
I would like to learn more about Japanese culture
and be able to tell that to many people.
Then, we rode Jin-rikisha. It is a man-powered vehicle,
and a powerful driver pulls it. Actually, I have never ridden it,
so both the US and Japan queens were excited as we rode it.
The driver guided us around the Sky Tree and the Asahi Building
while riding a Jin-rikisha. we were satisfied with the great experience.
